I had always found it difficult to relax at the scene of a crucifixion, even though, as a Roman Centurion, it was not a rare event for me. The conflicting atmosphere within the crowd was almost sickening. While some people wailed for all to hear, others would be laughing and joking about the criminals as they hung upon their cross.

The Fateful House Visit (1 Kings 13)
There’s a perplexing story found in 1 Kings that greatly intrigued me as I was beginning to see the relevance of Torah for modern believers. I say perplexing, because the story is a sad one, and can even appear to be unfair. It’s certainly not one that is easily understood, but I think there’s some important lessons we can learn from it nonetheless.

As we observe the appointed time of Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles) once again, we remember that YHWH has dwelt (tabernacled) amongst His people in times past, just as He promises to do throughout the ages. We are called to particularly remember that He caused the Israelites to live in temporary dwellings during their wilderness journeys after leaving Egypt (Lev 23:43).

Lessons From the Flock – #5
If you were walking across our paddocks, you would discover bare trails that wind through the pastures. These are created as the sheep walk along – following one another and wearing away the tracks. We will often see a small group of sheep walking along the trails they’ve created, and sometimes over 100 walking in a long line – one after the other.

No man knows the day or the hour of the Messiah’s return. That is an undisputed fact that Yeshua taught his disciples. However, I think this verse has been used in these latter days to keep us from a wise understanding concerning the timing of the second coming of the Messiah.

Achsah (עכסה) was the daughter of Caleb, and we’re introduced to her in Joshua 15:13-19. Along with a parallel passage in Judges, there are only two verses that speak of a short story in her life. This story of Achsah has always intrigued me (probably because I have a son named Caleb), but it’s so brief and seems to contain nothing of spiritual value. However, when we dig beneath the surface, I found that there is plenty to consider!

Lessons From the Flock – #4
In modern Christian teaching, it is often taught that we need to see ourselves as warriors and conquerors for the faith. It’s supposedly us who are the aggressors and who take the attack to Satan’s forces. We need to let him know who’s really boss! But, is this actually correct? At the very least, let me give you another possible way of looking at this.

The first pair of brothers found in Scripture are Cain and Abel (perhaps more correctly Qayin and Hevel). Their story has many lessons for us, but as we consider the time of Yom Kippur, the brothers connection to the two goats of this appointed time are of particular interest.

Matthew 6:33 is a verse that many are familiar with. It’s a verse that reminds us not to worry for the physical things we need in this life.
“Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.”
